Kyle Galanaugh is the founder of Elkhorn Expeditions and the creator of the DIY Alaskan Masterclass Series, a training platform designed to help hunters and anglers plan and execute their own wilderness adventures.
For Kyle, the pursuit of wild places has always been about more than just the hunt or the fish. It’s about the challenge of learning a landscape, solving the logistical puzzle of remote travel, and experiencing the kind of adventure that very few people ever attempt on their own.
Over the years, Kyle developed a deep passion for teaching others the skills needed to pursue those experiences. As a fly fishing guide and instructor, he spent countless hours helping anglers understand water, improve their technique, and build the confidence needed to succeed on challenging rivers. That experience shaped the teaching style he uses today—breaking complex outdoor skills and planning into clear, practical systems anyone can follow.
What Kyle discovered was that many people dream about hunting or fishing in remote places like Alaska, but very few ever pursue it. The reason isn’t lack of desire—it's lack of information. Planning these kinds of expeditions can feel overwhelming: choosing locations, coordinating transportation, assembling the right gear, understanding regulations, and preparing for the realities of wilderness travel.
That realization led to the creation of Elkhorn Expeditions.
Kyle built the Elkhorn Masterclass platform to give people the kind of knowledge that usually takes years of research, trial and error, and hard-earned experience to learn. His courses guide students step-by-step through the process of planning their own remote wilderness adventures—from selecting hunting units and preparing gear to navigating logistics, meat care, and operating safely in the backcountry.
Before focusing on Elkhorn Expeditions, Kyle also spent years in the music industry as the frontman for the rock band Politic. Performing and writing music in front of live audiences helped shape his ability to communicate, tell stories, and connect with people—skills that now carry over into the way he teaches and produces his masterclass content.
In addition to his outdoor pursuits, Kyle has a background in professional media production, which allows him to create high-quality cinematic training content designed to educate and inspire.
Today, Kyle continues to expand the Elkhorn Expeditions platform while traveling to Alaska and other remote destinations to film new training material and document real-world hunts and fishing expeditions.
